Thomas E. Zewert, M. D., Ph.D. – Harvard Trained, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

Originally from New York, Dr. Zewert graduated from Yale University as a National Merit Scholar with high honors and a master’s degree at age 20. He also found time to be active in several community groups and head The Yale Record (America’s oldest college humor magazine.)

 

Before heading to medical school, he received a Ph.D. in chemistry and biophysics at the California Institute of Technology where he was later on the faculty. “There I worked with Nobel Prize winner Dr. Robert Grubbs, and I patented several materials that are more like the body's own tissue (more natural) than presently available implants for, breast, facial, and body surgery.” “Later at Harvard Med., I fell in love with surgery and patented several techniques that can be used with skin surgery and skin treatments.”

Dr. Zewert received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and thereafter completed an integrated residency at the world-renowned Plastic Surgery Department at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He then moved to the beautiful Central Coast (Monterey) where he has been in private surgery practice for eight years.

Although the majority of Doctor Zewert’s practice is devoted to aesthetic surgery, he continues to perform reconstructive work (some of which is for charity): “Both types of plastic surgery (cosmetic and reconstructive) combine the artistic challenge and satisfaction of helping patients. “Certain procedures which I perform frequently like rhinoplasty and blepharoplasty combine both improvement in form and function.” “I also do not limit my practice of cosmetic surgery to one specific area of the body as I feel that a well-trained plastic surgeon can and should be able to master cosmetic procedures of the face, breast, and body in general.”

Dr. Zewert has published numerous articles in local newspapers and the most prestigious journals such as Science, and he gives talks to local groups and at national meetings on topics such as new techniques in facial rejuvenation, breast enhancement, and body contouring. “I enjoy talking about my work and educating patients about the benefits of plastic surgery, and I hope you will consider me in your search for the best surgeon for you.”
